{"id":24550,"date":"2018-03-21T20:52:28","date_gmt":"2018-03-21T19:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/eqmusicblog.com\/?p=24550"},"modified":"2018-03-21T21:03:12","modified_gmt":"2018-03-21T20:03:12","slug":"sxsw-2018-tv-review-last-o-g","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eqmusicblog.com\/sxsw-2018-tv-review-last-o-g\/","title":{"rendered":"SXSW 2018 TV Review: The Last O.G."},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"cb-itemprop\" itemprop=\"reviewBody\"><p>If I&#8217;m being 100% honest, the real draw for me to go and see the world premiere of <strong>The Last O.G.<\/strong> was easily <strong>Tiffany Haddish<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Hey, when one of Hollywood&#8217;s rising stars decides to make an appearance at <strong>SXSW<\/strong> and the world famous <strong>Paramount Theatre<\/strong> in Austin, there really is no other choice but to go and support her latest television project. Cancel everything else on the SXSW Go schedule and make sure you got a spot in the queue to watch this special television premiere event. You know if <strong>Tiffany Haddish<\/strong> in it, it&#8217;s going to be funny. After making me laugh in <strong>Girls Trip<\/strong> and being the best part of the <strong>Oscars<\/strong> this year, one can&#8217;t deny that <strong>&#8220;The Last Black Unicorn&#8221;<\/strong> author is most definitely on fire.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oLOtiuqzEuE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; encrypted-media\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>So what is The Last O.G. all about? <\/strong>Well, comedy king <strong>Tracy Morgan<\/strong> is back. This time, he plays an ex-con whom after spending the last 15 years in jail, gets released. When he finds out that his old neighbourhood in Brooklyn has been gentrified and it&#8217;s quite the &#8220;hood&#8221; it used to be, let&#8217;s just say that it takes a little bit of adjusting to get used to &#8211; and it&#8217;s pure comedy gold. The last of the remaining &#8220;original gangsters&#8221; must find what work he can as a barista to impress his main squeeze, played by <strong>Haddish<\/strong>, who has moved on to a new life, a new man, posh digs and has had a few well-adjusted children along the way. <\/p>\n<p>After seeing the first two episodes of <strong>&#8220;The Last O.G.&#8221;<\/strong> I was absolutely howling with laughter. I think you&#8217;ll be too once you see what all the hype is about. The writing is superb, the cast is as perfect as it can be and it&#8217;s evident that the show-runner, executive producer <strong>Jordan Peele<\/strong>, along with Morgan, but a lot of heart and soul into this project. I can&#8217;t wait to start adding this to my TV schedule when it debuts on <strong>TBS<\/strong> on <strong>April 3rd<\/strong>. <\/p>\n<p>Leave it to <strong>SXSW<\/strong> and <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/janetpierson\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Janet Pierson&#8217;s<\/strong><\/a> film team to find the best new episodic programs every year &#8211; it&#8217;s just as great as their film programming. By choosing <strong>&#8220;The Last O.G.&#8221;<\/strong> as one of their world premieres this year, it&#8217;s proof-positive why their film festival is world-class, constantly going from strength-to-strength and totally worth the badge price. <\/p>\n<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After seeing the first two episodes of &#8220;The Last O.G.&#8221; at SXSW, I was absolutely howling with laughter.
